- Developing technology to replace vacuum pumps through electronic speed control
The Global R&D Department recently received the Value Engineering (VE) Innovation Award from Hyundai Motor Company for its development of technology to replace vacuum pumps with the use of electronic speed control (low-vacuum assist, LVA).
On November 1, at the 2017 Supplier Companies Tech Day, the department received the VE Innovation Award for its development of technology to replace, through electronic speed control, the previous method of using vacuum pumps. HKMC Vice-Chairman Yang Woong-Chul, Global R&D Managing Director Choi Seong-ho and others attended the ceremony.
Managing Director Choi received the  VE Innovation Award from Vice-Chairman Yang in recognition of innovative contributions to cost control. The LVA technology allows electronic control of speed without a vacuum pump, which displaces the technology of increasing power through vacuum pumps when the accelerator pedal is in operation. This innovation reduces costs by 22% compared to previous technology.
Receiving the award, Managing Director Choi said, &ldquoThe LVA technology was developed through shifts in our thoughts, and will help secure global competitiveness for both finished vehicles and supplier companies.&rdquo
